This Privacy Policy describes how Bushido: The Path (the “App”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application and related services (the “Services”). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

When you create an account, contact us, or sign up for communications, we may collect your email address, name (if provided), and any messages you send to us.

Information Collected Automatically

When you use the App, we automatically collect:

• Device information: model, operating system version, language, time zone, unique device identifiers, and crash reports.
• Usage data: chapters read, audio playback events, reading progress, bookmarks, journal entries, and feature usage patterns. Reading progress and journal entries are stored locally on your device and may be synced to your iCloud account.
• Location information: approximate location derived from your IP address, and, with your permission, precise location from your device. We use this to understand where our users are, provide regional content recommendations, and improve our marketing.
• Network information: IP address, request logs from our content delivery network, and similar telemetry needed to serve audio and other content.

Information from Third Parties

We may receive information from third-party services we use, such as Apple (for App Store purchases and subscription status) and Cloudflare (for content delivery analytics).

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and maintain the App and its features.
• Process your purchases, subscriptions, and account requests.
• Sync your reading progress, bookmarks, and journal entries across your devices.
• Send you product updates, marketing communications, promotional offers, and information about new content. You can opt out of marketing communications at any time (see Section 4).
• Personalize content recommendations and improve our editorial offerings.
• Analyze how the App is used so we can improve performance and design.
• Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security risks, and technical issues.
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:

• Service providers who help us operate the App (cloud hosting, content delivery, email delivery, analytics, customer support). These providers are contractually bound to use the information only to provide services to us.
• Apple, in connection with App Store transactions and any iCloud-backed features you choose to enable.
• Legal and safety recipients when required by law, subpoena, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, the public, or ourselves.
• Successors in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to standard confidentiality obligations.

4. Your Choices and Rights

You have meaningful control over your information:

• Marketing opt-out: every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also disable push notifications in your device’s system settings.
• Location permission: you can grant or revoke precise location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Bushido.
• Access, correction, deletion: you may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct inaccurate information, or request deletion of your data. Email us at the address below.
• California residents: you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and the right to request deletion. We do not sell personal information.
• EU and UK residents: where GDPR applies, you have rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. Our legal basis for processing is your consent, the performance of our contract with you, and our legitimate interests in operating and improving the App.

5. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.

6. Security

We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including transport encryption (TLS), access controls, and secure cloud infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security but we work to limit risk.

7. Children’s Privacy

The App is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. International Users

The App is operated from the United States. If you are accessing the Services from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and other jurisdictions where our service providers operate.

9. Third-Party Links and Services

The App may contain links to or interoperate with third-party services. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third-party services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you use.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice (such as an in-app message or email). Your continued use of the App after the effective date of the updated Policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
